Default Tercel Trunk Plugs?

Hi

My trunk leaks. I think it's the tail light area. It had a broken tail light when I got it. I replaced the tail light and the trunk still leaks.

Usually I suck the water up with a shop vac.

I pulled the car in the back and I am thinking about drilling a couple of small holes in the center of the trunk where the water collects. I noticed there are a couple of rubber plugs. They and the water that collects are under the spare tire.

What do you think those plugs are for?

Drainage?

Now I'm thinking I can just see me drilling a hole and hitting the gas tank or some other part.

Actually those plugs are placed there to seal up holes that are in the body to allow body sealer and primer to drain out when they dip the bodies to rust proof them. Most likely you still have a water leak around a taillight I would get some silocone sealer and fill any gaps you see around the holes and openeing that the taillight attaches.

Thanks. I'll have to see if I can find where it's leaking. I am 99% sure it's around the taillight.

Take some paper towels and tear them into strips. Tape the strips below the suspected areas, close the trunk and either wait for rain or pour water all over it.
Theoretically, when you check the paper strips, they should be wet where the leak is.

Haven't tried this, just thought it up..... might work!
