Default Postage rates, padded envelope, first class

    Wow I am confused.

I sold a small toy on ebay.

Packaged it weighed 2 oz. I allowed 4 oz in the listing.

On the ebay listing it states $1.48 for the 4 oz.

    Paypal to print label $1.56 + 19 d/c for 2 oz.

I would have been way off if I had done it for the 4 oz.

I went to USPS and they came up with $1.71 for 2 oz.

I checked Turbo Lister and the only thing to select is first class. There is no adjustment for "The Large Envelope contains items that cause more than 1/4 inch variation in thickness" as on the USPS website.

    What's up with this?

For a first class padded envelope, what should I select on Turbo Listers list? (for next time)

    OK here's another.

I went to print a parcel post label via paypal and it was $7.39 more than the USPS web site.

At the USPS web site I put in the dimensions of the box (over 12") and it's the price charged in the listing.

I must be doing wrong. If I'm not doing something wrong it makes me wonder what other errors there are.

I am going to the post office tomorrow.

There are three levels of first class. Regular letter type mail, flat stiff package/envelope but thin, and package that is over 3/4 inch. eBay, PayPal and TL always use the package level.

    Hi

    Thank you Laura.

I went to the post office and she said on the padded envelope it goes first class parcel.

On Turbo Listers drop down menu I don't see that option.
The clerk said to use the box/package option.

On the larger box, at Paypal I was selecting large box/package because it was more than 12". I figured that one out. I selected box/package, put in my dimensions and it came out right. I had the clerk double check the postage and show me exactly how to measure it.

It was really messing with my mind!

On TL the ONLY first class option is first class parcel. Also the only first class option on PayPal is first class parcel. You will select for type Envelope/Package.

Patti, just FYI, for First Class Parcel, it's $1.71 (with the DC) printed through Paypal for the first three ounces. For four ounces I think it would've been $1.92 or thereabouts.

It's a rip-off. One ounce is $1.71, two ounces is $1.71, three ounces is $1.71.

    Interesting. I didn't know this.

    Ebay calculated a 2 oz $1.53

Oops, all my $1.71's should be $1.75's. I'm not sure how you're getting $1.53, Patty. For First Class parcel I get $1.56 + $.19 for DC total $1.75 for 1 though 3 ounces.
